When the bat mitzvah girl first told us her design inspiration was the “cottage core” aesthetic, I’ll admit we had to look it up. Once we understood what this feminine, fairytale, vintage inflected theme was all about, we absolutely fell in love! We had such a blast creating this girly, charming event.
Olivia’s bat mitzvah ceremony and party took place in two different backyards! The party was in Olivia’s very own enchanting backyard and the ceremony was in her aunt’s backyard just a short walk away. The proximity of the two spaces made for such an easy transition from one festivity to the other. At first the mitzvah mom was uncertain about how to hold her daughter’s mitzvah at home, but once we saw the enormous tree in their backyard we fell in love and knew it would be a spectacular setting for this floral heavy, intimate affair.
Flowers were the star of the show as the arrangements took center stage in creating the cottage core theme. From the lovely tabletop centerpieces to the shepherds’ hooks wrapped in delicate florals and the large woven lanterns hanging from above, the details transported guests to a fairytale setting. Pops of pink, purple, yellow, and blue created a feminine atmosphere against the greenery of the backyard garden. Patterned linens, mismatched China plates, and vintage goblets made sitting down for dinner a fabulous affair. The twinkling taper candles set the mood as the sun went down, and the kids table was enveloped by a hanging flower ceiling.
Olivia’s quirky and charming personality was evident by her outfit, and we made sure her personality shined in every aspect of the evening. Her smile was contagious and she was effortlessly cool! Creating events that reflect the mitzvah kid’s personality perfectly is one of our greatest joys in this job.
Guests became part of the decor as they wore their custom made flower crowns. Instead of a classic photo booth, guests hit several poses as frame by frame images were used to create flip books that bring the moment back to life anytime you thumb through them.
Alligator Pear catered a delightful sit-down, plated dinner, as well as unique passed appetizers. Our favorite was the corn chowder, we still talk about it today! The charcuterie cones were a playful twist that made our hosts feel safer than a shared board, even considering all guests were tested for Covid prior to arrival. The dessert table was as stunning as it was delicious.
The love for Olivia was so clear that night as her friends and family mingled amongst the gorgeous florals and romantic setting. This family was a joy to work for. Their strong personal style made this event feel so intimate and personal.
